Audrey Mabee

Audrey Mabee is an alumnus of The Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary and has a colourful history with the art school.  Audrey took Saturday-morning art classes as a child there, became the college's first Alumni President, served as a member of the Board of Governors and finally served as the Acting President in 1998 - 1999.

Active and interested in her community, Audrey has been a member of numerous boards, juries and foundations and was an art teacher throughout her career. Business savy and a born marketer, she also co-owned the Croft for 23 years, focusing on quality handmade Canadian craft and Alberta pottery.

Audrey's paintings, usually figurative, are oil on canvas.  The core of the work focuses on design, colour and interesting use of negative spaces. The images develop out of the process, and are not fully conceived at the outset—they usually have a small unexpected twist that Audrey calls "the poison".

Audrey has exhibited in galleries since the late 80's, with representation in Calgary, Vancouver, San Francisco, Hawaii, Edmonton and Saskatoon.

Significant commissions for private and commercial corporations include Starbucks, A & W, the Calgary Foundation and the Alberta Children's Hospital.  Her work is included in the collection of the Alberta Art Foundation.
